School Nurse Support Groups

What are DYS School Nurse Support Groups?

Diabetes Youth Services (DYS) knows diabetes is a community disease, meaning not just primary caretakers are impacted when a child is diagnosed. DYS is excited to announce a new program for school nurses meant to provide a place to relax and discuss tips and tricks when working with a child with diabetes. Participants will also hear from experts on things like:

  • Diabetes Technology
  • 504 Plans and Individualized Education Plans
  • Liability of staff relating to diabetes management
  • Communication with parents
  • So much more!

How often will these meetings take place?

DYS plans to hold support meetings on a quarterly basis in Ohio and Michigan. Meetings are supplemented with the School Nurse Conference in Toledo each August where nurses can earn CE Credits and learn more about diabetes in the classroom in a more formal atmosphere.

Note: Because we have several people talking in the same room at once, we only offer this group in person. Due to high demand, we have created additional meeting opportunities for Michigan staff.

Our next meeting is scheduled for:  Thursday April 25, 2024 from 4-5PM

We will be hosting Anna Sabino, MSW, CDCES at this online session. Anna lives with T1D herself and runs Finding Smiles Coaching where she works with children and young adults living with T1D as well as parents and families impacted by a T1D diagnosis.
