The DYS Leadership program is designed to address the unique needs of young adults between 16 and 22. As they get older, these young adults need to learn to manage their diabetes independently, as an adult. Leadership offers opportunities to learn diabetes management techniques, leadership skills, life skills, and make great friends along the way.
Our camp counselors are typically pulled from this group. The skills that are taught will not only help as the young adults grow, but to help them be effective counselors at camp!
The program includes a variety of activities all over our service area. We host fun events, such as kayaking and paintball, holiday parties, and volunteer opportunities. The program is designed to get the participants to make valuable personal connections, learn about diabetes care, and become leaders in the community.
