DYS Little Shots Day Camp for Younger Children (entering grades K-3)

Little Shots Day Camp 2017: July 16-19, 2018 at Olander Park, Sylvania, OH

Camp Description

Little Shots Day Camp is designed specifically for younger children (entering grades K-3) who have Type 1 diabetes. Intermingled with the educational sessions are fun-filled recreational activities, games, and arts and crafts. All activities are designed to promote confidence and teach techniques for managing their diabetes. This is a great first step in your child getting involved with Diabetes Youth Services.

Children value the opportunity to spend an entire week with many other children and positive teen role models who also have diabetes. For a short time, your child won’t feel like the “only one” who has diabetes! Kids leave camp with a can-do attitude and new friends they will treasure for a lifetime. They will gain much needed support from our trained staff and fellow campers who genuinely understand what they are going through as a type 1 diabetic.

Nearly 90% of parents report that their child needs fewer reminders to perform self-care tasks after spending a week at camp. We encourage children at camp to try new “firsts” with their diabetes.

Campers, parents and extended family come together to celebrate each camper’s achievements at the family picnic and awards ceremony on Thursday evening before the final day of camp.
